On The Road Again...

Back on the roads of Northern Italy again…this time on the
A23 in Friuli en route to Lake Bled,
Slovenia. Good day for driving since it’s hazy, hot
& humid out (30-35 degrees C). Highway miles are much better than small road
miles making for an easy 3 hour drive.
Highlights:
- Alps/Dolomites:
Whatever mountains we drove past were nice.
- Vignettes/Vinjetas:
Austria & Slovenia
require drivers to buy stickers to drive on their highways in lieu of
tolls. This flat fee (Austria: 8 euros for 10 days, Slovenia:
15 euros for one week) are a much better deal than paying expensive
Italian tolls (e.g. our 1.5 hr. ride on the autostrada today cost 17.80
euros!) These stickers are great, unless of course you go thru a big
tunnel (Karawankentunnel = 6.50 euros) or bridge (Europa
Bridge on our drive near Innsbruck last week =
8 euros each way) where you have to pay a toll anyway.
