Florida-Carribean 2011 - The Beginning - February 18, 2011

Terminal C was hopping today with tons of families heading south for the week.  Flew Jet Blue as usual on the A320 to Fort Myers.  Flight was definitely full…a smooth ride for the most part.  We must have been anxious to get to Florida, though, because the 3hr flight felt very long tonight.  I was even getting a little tired of the Cake Boss and House Hunters episodes that kept playing, which are two shows I normally enjoy.  Regardless, we made decent time and arrived by 8:30pm.  At the airport, it was a mess of people trying to get their bags and escape to the warmth but we were able to quickly grab our bags and proceed to the rental car pick up...

Since it was a busy time for pick ups at Avis (no preferred car rental company yet...just happened to have the best deal), we had to wait for a few while some other people attempted to get the car. I don’t know if it is just because we have done this a lot recently or we are better prepared but we never seem to be at the counter more than 5 minutes and our pick ups are normally all smooth, but there seemed to be a good amount of confusion for everybody in front of us as to what car they were picking up. There was one guy at the end of the counter very frustrated with his situation. From what we gathered he did not seem to reserve the correct car. Normally I would not pay attention to this except that his 11 year old child started complaining and getting anxious. When he found out that they were going to be “stuck” with  a regular car, he proceeded to scream “But Dad?! What happened to the Chrysler? I thought we were getting a Chrysler!?!?!?! Geesh! I might as well walk or take the bus!” and quickly stormed off to sit by himself in the waiting area. Needless to say, when they walked out with us…there was no Chrysler to be found.

The drive to Marco was shorter than I remembered in our sporty red Chevy Cobalt.  Tried to find dinner along the way and ended up at Subway (always seems to be one meal there per trip!).  There were probably more Panther crossing signs than food choices…but no panthers,  Couldn’t pass up a trip down memory lane at Little Caesar’s when we got to Marco so we ended up with a pizza, too.  Not as good as I remembered.  Pulled into Aquarius ten minutes to eleven where we got a warm welcome from Nana & Papa who nicely waited up.  Excited to be here on the island for the first time in 8 years!
